our position on the Covid recovery group (CRG)

Recovery welcomes the launch of the new Covid Recovery Group of MPs.

Recovery welcomes the news this morning that a group of 50 MPs has launched to put forward more constructive alternatives to damaging Government policies on Covid-19. Coming within just two weeks of our launch, it shows the impact that Recovery has made in pointing the way to better policies on Covid-19. It’s encouraging to see that many of their demands are similar to ours.

The news that influential voices at Westminster will making the case for a better approach can only be good for the lives and livelihoods of the people of the UK. This group wants lockdowns to end – so do we. To avoid any confusion, it should be clear from the outset that we are wholly independent groups. We are not a political organisation; we are a group of like-minded individuals from all walks of life who share a common set of goals. Our supporters represent a broad spectrum of political beliefs and parties including Labour, Lib Dems, Remainers and Brexiteers. We will work with the new group and anyone else at Westminster who shares our commitment to change Covid policy for the better.

Our campaigning will continue to be uncompromisingly critical of policies which are damaging to the lives and livelihoods of the people of this country.

We invite the new group to adopt our Five Reasonable Demands for good Government during Covid-19 in full as the starting point for recovery. The Five Reasonable Demands provide important principles which prevent the worst and most damaging aspects of current policy and ensure better policy-making informed by an open debate.
